Military Families Receive Free Admission to Museums

Blue Star Families is a not-for-profit organization whose goal is to empower and support military families. Each summer, they team up with thousands of museums across the nation for their Blue Star Museums program.

Through this program, which runs Memorial Day through Labor Day, military families are given free admission to participating museums. The program started in the summer of 2010 as a partnership between the Department of Defense, Blue Star Families, and more than 1,800 museums across the United States. Today there are more than one thousand museums, planetariums, and zoos that participate in the program.

Some participating museums in New York State are the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the Guggenheim Museum, the Corning Museum of Glass, and the New York City Fire and Police Museums.

This is a great opportunity that Blue Star Families is able to offer our military families. The deal is only available for the summer, Memorial Day until Labor Day, which is September 3, 2012. So visit these participating museums while they are free of charge!

You do not need to scramble to visit the New York State Military Museum and Veteran Research Center in Saratoga Springs, NY. The museum features an variety of exhibits, spanning the scope of history from the American Revolution to the modern day Iraq and Afghanistan Wars. the museum holds events and programs frequently throughout the year and has a research center and archives.

Best of all, admission to the Military Museum is free, all year long, not just to military families but to everyone.

The Friends of the New York State Military Museum is a volunteer support organization dedicated to preserve New York’s rich military history.
