Learn To Start A Home Business

Many people dream about starting a home business but have no idea how to begin. They have an idea of how to make money, but they are usually daunted by ideas of looking for venture capital, buying equipment, or paying for an attorney to set up the company.

In reality, none of this is necessary. Most people who start a real home business don’t need any of that. These are usually people who have no intention of hiring employees, keeping inventory, or needing special permits or zoning ordinances changed in order to do business.

Typically, people are just looking to be freelancers, work from home, and doing things as simply and cheaply as possible.

You may already have a home based business and not even realize it. Do you babysit? Cut lawns? Have a snow plow? Maybe you design wedding invitations or plan parties. In any case, you have a business. What if you do nothing like that but want to start a business? It’s still easy.

To make any business official, check out your state’s website. They will have a section for business or corporate filings. The first thing you need to do is decide whether you want to be a sole proprietor, an LLC, or a corporation. Your choice will depend on how much liability you think you will have when you start working. Then, decide on a business name. Most websites will tell you if that name is taken, and what to do next.

Decide if you want to be a sole proprietor, an LLC or a corporation. (LLCs provide plenty of liability protection along with the ability to get a tax refund each year!)

If you chose an LLC, your taxes are easy. Fill out a schedule C, file it with your own taxes, and you’ll probably even get a tax refund at year end!
